We are pleased to have a new Artist with us ~ Kalena Coleman
Everyone claims that, “pictures say more than a thousand words.” For me this is accurate, I have always enjoyed reminiscing among pictures from years past. I became uninterested looking at the classic photo frame from Target or Home Goods so I decided to change that. This was the establishment of my crafting career. I found several inspiring foundations from antique stores. I often times found myself dragging my friends, mother or even brother into them. The concept of picking up an item and wondering whose it was and the story behind it thrilled me. Hopefully, these rustic makings will create memories and stories for you and your families.
~Kalena Coleman (Rustic Korner)

You are welcome to forward this to your gal pals, so that they may join in the fun! See you soon!

Potential

There are times when we need to see beyond the ugly and see the potential when we are looking for particular pieces for a room. I found these matching chairs at a little antique shop, the owners had purchased them with the intent to repair, update and sell. The seats were burned, and the frame of one of broken, both need some TLC!
But,  I saw the potential in them because they were exactly what I was looking for to have in my bedroom, comfortable, great lines, beautiful wood classic chairs.
Thankfully the owner was willing to sell them "as is" and we sealed the deal!  Both seats were burned, and after I removed the seat, I realized that I needed to replace everything in the seat, including the wood. No burned wood smell in my bedroom! After the wood was cut, I found cushions to fit and then picked a material to complement my bedroom colors to cover the seat cushion. After adding a great accent pillow they are now a great addition to our master bedroom.

Finding the perfect piece for a particular space

This piece was originally a very light mint blue and was purchased to fit in a particular place with just the right measurements.  It was an old tv cabinet, converted previously with lots of charm and sweet detailing. We used milk paint to paint it a darker green and then sanded it to distress it.  We finish fit off with antiquing wax which was perfect. It darkened it appropriately and gave it a beautiful sheen.
As you can see, the dimensions, color, and size is a perfect fit for this corner, the lamp and artwork contribute to a sweet space and looks beautiful!

A little help from my cat

So, I had a little help from my cat when I brought in this table for the eat in kitchen.  I distressed the top of the table with a sander and a hammer.  it goes great with these comfy chairs.  I painted a cabinet I found a sale, this great Martha Stewart "Crag", a little metallic but very luminous.  I also painted my fireplace mantle the same color.  There are some interesting accents in the room, the barn door we took off a fabulous old barn, a shelf above the window made from vintage corbels and a great piece of wood from the sawmill.   Its coming together....

Organizing to Decorate

After all the big pieces of furniture were in place, it was time to embellish!  Putting all the art in one room, the lamps and lampshades in another, knick knacks, vases, candles in one place, and books in another was a great way to see what I had and where I wanted it to go, trying different lamps, in one room for example to find the best one.  This is definitely something you can do when you just want to change up some of your spaces.  Take down your art, lamps, pictures, etc. and have your own art gallery to shop to create a "new" place with your own items.  Basically shopping your own house.  Its also a great way to find out if its time to refresh a space in other ways as well.
